Walking the balance of appealing to sell your art and doing art "your way"

As an artist, you walk a fine line between making art to sell- for others' pleasure- SO YOU CAN EAT and making art unapologetically. Once you can be unapologetic- You've made it! It's getting there that can be tricky...

I am struggling with this myself. I am needing to sell my resin and art so I can continue to make it- otherwise, I can't justify the cost to my family. Resin isn't cheap. Paint and supplies aren't cheap. If you do things like water marbling... the products for that aren't cheap. How do artists even live these days?

I am struggling with even getting more than 30 people on my Instagram. I do all the "correct" things- hashtags, and post at the right time of the day.. etc. I am just moving my profile from 8 followers to 26.

I would love to be able to make "Monthly Subscription Resin Treats" which would include different resin-made items, earrings, keychains, sea shells, trays, cups, vases, decor, etc. As part of the subscription, you would receive 2 to 4 pieces made by me per month... including paintings.

I would like to be able to make my own stickers. I have some funny phrases that I think people would like. I would include a decal or a print version of something I made in this medium as well.

This post is all over the place! I apologize!

Nonetheless... as an artist, it seems you have to make art that appeals to others so you can sell it... and you also need to find art that you are good at that you can repeatedly duplicate. The struggle is real.
